Sensor technology has paved the way for new heights of precision, power and economy from today’s engines, with Niterra at the heart of developments.

Timing is the determining factor to keeping an internal combustion engine running with accuracy and efficiency. In a four-stage combustion sequence, camshaft & crankshaft sensors for example provide the engine control unit (ECU) with positioning and timing data for exact fuelling and ignition. The NTK portfolio from Niterra was recently bolstered by the introduction of a new family of OE-quality sensors, which expand the engine and emissions management capabilities from the range.

Exhaust pressure sensors play a significant role in engine optimisation. They provide the ECU with pressure data that can relate to various connected exhaust systems including exhaust gas recirculation valves, turbos, and emissions filter units which may now be found on either a petrol or diesel vehicle. This newest NTK range encapsulates different sensor types such as differential pressure and high-pressure sensors and boasts application coverage of more than 70% of the Irish parc at the launch in 2023. The new parts meet or exceed vehicle manufacturer standards to give workshops an important revenue stream from engine management services which can benefit multiple components on their customer’s vehicles.

The exhaust pressure sensors join the well-rounded NTK family that includes lambda, NOx, MAF, MAP, camshaft, crankshaft, and EGT sensors and EGR valves. The NTK brand sits in partnership the workshop favourite NGK brand which boasts the world’s No.1 spark plugs. It also leads the way in precious metal spark plugs which are specified as OE fitment of choices by many VMs. The NGK ignition range includes spark plugs, glow plugs, and coils; all of which support excellent ignition, reliability, and emissions.

Becca Knight, Marketing Manager, Niterra UK Ltd, said, “Essential data from sensors works in harmony with the critical ignition from traditional combustion components. They are so finely matched that if engine timing is off by a few milliseconds the customer can experiencing rough running and engine warning lights, and this is why reliable sensors make all the difference.”

Becca added, “The NGK and NTK brands are the perfect choice for workshops looking to expertly care for customer’s standard servicing requirements and offer engine management services; especially when a fault may impact more than one system, as we see with exhaust pressure faults”.
