Skibbereen motor dealer Jack Leonard, has announced that he is to retire from service in the motor industry, having put in place an understanding with the well-known Fermoy-based Blackwater Motors, for the future running and development of the business, under a long-term agreement that will see the property remain in his ownership.
From their home in Fermoy, the operations of Blackwater Motors have expanded to the city of Cork, where they acquired the Volkswagen business previously handled by Turners Cross Motors, and now to West Cork, where they will assume the effective running of the Leonard Motors business from early February.
Commenting on the arrangement, which has the full support of the Volkswagen organisation in Ireland, Jack Leonard welcomed Blackwater Motors and, in particular, their decision to retain the staff in Skibbereen, all of whom will continue in employment with the new enterprise.
Jason Field, General Manager for the new Blackwater Motors in Skibbereen commented, “In a time of economic uncertainty, we are delighted to be able to bring some good news to this area. We would like to give special mention to Jack Leonard, who has served the people of this area over the years and we are particularly happy that we could take his staff forward with the new business. We will ensure that the high standards which Jack Leonard’s customers have come to expect over the years will be met by Blackwater Motors Skibbereen.”
