Tyre and automotive components specialist Continental has provided an insight into how it sees the future of mobility by unveiling an autonomous taxi. The concept is called, CUbE, which stands for "Continental Urban mobility Experience" and is designed to demonstrate how self-driving taxis could change future cities.
The company says the taxis will create a "feel-good cocoon" in the midst of the hectic urban environment and will help cities with expanding populations overcome the problems of congestion and parking. The CUbE also has an all electric powertrain which will reduce air pollution.
The autonomous driving system uses sensors and other hardware that Continental currently supplies to car manufacturers for driver-assistance systems.
The CUbE is currently undergoing testing in Frankfurt and will feature at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
