Some owners are quite happy to drive around with a couple of problems, others are not. Some drivers will immediately rush to get the smallest problem fixed, others will run around with quite serious though not mechanically dangerous problems. The owner of this 2012 Hyundai i10 1.2 CVVT was in the must get it fixed category and he was adamant that this was an emergency. His washers were not working and this made the vehicle illegal to drive.
He was, of course, correct and I duly got him in the next day so that I could assess the situation. A quick check revealed that the washers were not operating and that the washer fluid was good, but no sound could be heard when attempting to operate the washers.
Using a test light I discovered that there was current going to the pump, but that this had failed. It is worth noting at this point that it is good to give the washers a spray at regular intervals, just to ensure that the pump and the fluid in the system gets moved occasionally.
On this Hyundai, the reservoir is hidden behind the front bumper and the book time for this one is 2.7 hours. The front bumper cover needs to be removed to get access to the pump and so although this may be considered a small job, in reality it was not.
