GS Yuasa to establish new lithium-ion battery plant

GS Yuasa Corporation, the parent company of GS Yuasa Battery Europe, has announced that it will establish a new manufacturing subsidiary company, GS Yuasa Hungary Ltd and will be constructing a new manufacturing plant dedicated to lithium-ion technology at Miskolc in Hungary.


Lithium-ion batteries will be assembled in the new plant with lithium-ion cells made in Japan. These batteries will be used for Starting, Lighting, and Ignition applications which are expected to be expanded in the European market. GS Yuasa will also consider manufacturing lithium-ion cells in this plant in future.

The new plant will provide the company with improved capacity and flexibility to allow it to further enhance its response to changing battery technology.

The new Hungarian subsidiary is 100% owned by GS Yuasa International. The new plant is being developed on a 140,000 m2 site and when complete will have a annual production capacity of 500,000 batteries.
