Holidays are often a time to indulge in rich food, but for 30 eccentric driving teams setting off from the UK this August, greasy restaurants will be a place to fill up their cars as well as their stomachs.

The teams will be heading to the shores of the Mediterranean powered only by chip fat and cooking oil, that they will scavenge en route from restaurants and burger bars. Organiser Andy Pag said, ‘The aim is to see if using waste vegetable oil for long distances is practical and feasible, and to have a bit of a laugh on the way.’ Contrary to popular perception, diesel engines don’t need to be converted to run on biodiesel, and most diesel cars can comfortably cope with blending vegetable oil in with regular fuel. Places are still available on the summer jaunt and teams can register to join the ‘Grease to Greece’ challenge at www.fatfinding.com. It’s sure to appeal to those with a taste for fast cars as well as fast food.
