Think of iconic cars from the seventies and there is a strong chance that an image of a Ford Capri will come to mind. The Capri celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and a number of special events have been planned in the UK for fans of the car to get together. These will be held at the Grampian Transport Museum, Alford, Aberdeenshire (30 August), Ace Café in London (5 September) and Brooklands Museum, Surrey (26 September).

The Capri was launched in 1969 and advertised under the banner "the car you always promised yourself." This was pretty true to life, because if you were of a driving age in the 1970’s and did not have a Capri, then the chances are you probably wanted one.
The car had various incarnations before eventually slipping quietly out of production in 1986. However, it is perhaps the MK I complete with vinyl roof that most people will remember.
