Ecobat Battery and sister company Ecobat Solutions teamed at Automechanika Frankfurt to not only show their latest batteries and battery maintenance products, but also the importance of its cradle to grave approach, which includes an aftermarket solution for battery recycling. 

Ecobat Solutions offers a complete solution for end of life batteries, not just in the context of lead-acid batteries, but also for lithium batteries and electric vehicle (EV) battery packs. The company’s UK site at Darlaston has been disassembling, discharging, re-engineering and recycling lithium batteries for the last 18 months.

The facility has processed thousands of batteries, which is very impressive especially as lithium-ion must be transported under strict dangerous goods regulations. To ensure it can offer a fully-compliant transportation service, it helped to develop a special critical battery transportation box that can be deployed in the event of batteries being damaged or potentially liable to thermal runaway.

This solution, alongside a cutaway example of an EV battery pack, was on show on the combined Ecobat stand. Ecobat Solutions experts were on hand at the stand to explain the benefits of the company’s battery supply approach. This sees damaged or batteries which have reached the end of life as a vehicle power sources, safely transported and carefully analysed by Ecobat Solutions. Batteries can then either be repaired for reuse, re-engineered for a repurposed use, such as power storage for renewables, or safely discharged and recycled.  

The service from Ecobat can offer the aftermarket a solution to what will be a fast growing issue as electric and hybrid vehicles come to the end of their life, or battery packs require replacement.
