When it comes to recovery and towing of heavy commercial vehicles and coaches, many recovery contractors have to sub-contract. However, it can be a potentially lucrative business area and investing in the right type of equipment can open up huge new areas of business potential.
One operator who has recently made such an investment is Roy’s Autos based in Yorkshire in the UK, with the addition of the Dyson Landoll travelling axle trailer to its fleet.
As well as manufacturing its own comprehensive range of vehicle recovery systems, the Roger Dyson Group is the sole UK, Ireland and European distributor for US-built Landoll trailers. It supplied Roy’s Autos’ with a fully hydraulic, 48ft platform which offers an ultra low loading angle of less than six degrees, Haldex EBS electronically-braked 11,000kg SAF low-loader axles, and a 20,000lb hydraulic winch with radio remote control. Roger Dyson also fitted its customer’s 6x4 Volvo tractor unit with the hydraulic systems required to operate the trailer.
Roy’s Autos director Mark Needham said, “Our new Landoll is brilliant. It’s easily operated by a single individual and has brought valuable extra flexibility to our business.” He added, “It’s a lot easier and safer to put a big vehicle on the back of a trailer, rather than lifting and towing it on a recovery vehicle which can sometimes cause damage.”
