Trying on your car could become an important part of the purchasing process, if a new idea being tried by Chevrolet in England takes off. It’s a car fitting room that allows would-be buyers; see what they will look like in a car before they buy it.
Currently in use at the Phoenix dealership in Wimbledon, the “fitting room” is a curtained-off area where customers can drive their potential new wheels onto a 360° revolving platform. Using a remote control handset, they can view themselves in the car by revolving the platform in front of three large mirrors. The idea has come about following a recent survey by Chevrolet, which found that 72% of motorists said they use their car as a status symbol and 95% said they had no idea what they look like behind the wheel. The company will now gauge reaction before a possible roll out of the concept to other dealers.
