DENSO offers Lambda Sensor fitment advice

DENSO has issued some practical advice on Lambda Sensors, pointing out that these can often be prone to failure in extreme weather.

Lambda Sensors can be one of the most important parts of a car, helping to ensure optimal engine performance and reduce emissions. However, they are also one of the most vulnerable components when exposed to extreme weather conditions, particularly if the components are old or of poor quality.

DENSO say that while detecting a faulty Lambda Sensor is important it is equally important to select the right product and ensure it is fitted correctly to ensure a happy, returning customer. DENSO recommends the following fitment procedure;
  • Clean the contact surface for the gasket and the thread with a thread cleaning tool.
  • Checked the wiring loom for broken wires that have been melted or torn.
  • Checked the counter connector for signs such as housing damage, missing seals, dislocated pins, and the leakage of oil or water.
  • Screw the sensor in by hand, making sure not to cross the thread.
  • Tighten to the torque specified. For DENSO Direct fit, this is 35-45 Nm.
  • Wire routing – if possible use the original fixation materials and positions. Sometimes DENSO provides alternatives in the box.
  • If the wire is slightly too long, bind the cables as close to the connector as possible, and away from the exhaust and moving parts, without any folding.
  • Finally, connect and lock the connector – you should hear an audible click.
The OE quality of DENSO Lambda Sensors ensures each product offers guaranteed durability, cementing workshops’ reputation as a provider of quality and excellence, driving customer loyalty.
