ChromaVision the popular spectrophotometer from Cromax, formerly known as DuPont Refinish, has been given a software upgrade to make it even more efficient.

It now allows users of Cromax Basecoat to judge the effect of a paint colour with the Flake Selector fan deck. The Flake Selector identifies the size of the aluminium flake within a particular effect colour, allowing the refinisher to choose not only the best matching formula for the repair, but also the one with the right effect.

The visual impression of aluminium flake size is dramatically influenced by the shade of the paint colour. By using the Flake Selector, which has been designed to improve the selection and search efficiency when looking for an aluminium flake effect colour using ChromaVision, refinishers can correctly identify the flake size of an effect, regardless of the colour, for even more accurate colour matching. The Flake Selector comprises a set of 25 colour chips that can be overlaid onto five different lightness levels, each of which has five different effect levels.

Once the colour shade has been identified by ChromaVision, it is then classified into one of the Flake Selector five shade levels, ranging from light to dark. For example, to identify the flake size on a white car, refinishers must compare the shade with the light set of effect chips.

Anthony Cashel, Brand Marketing Specialist, for Cromax says, “We are pleased that we can now offer our Cromax Basecoat bodyshops the accuracy and productivity benefits the Flake Selector brings. Together with the right light conditions, the Flake Selector will minimise the room for error, allowing all our refinishers to get the right colour match, first time.”
