In October last year, two of the best known names in the vehicle recovery business in Ireland, officially came together to launch Cartow.ie, a new concept in breakdown and recovery services closely focused on the needs of customers. Eight months on and the new company is thriving, with its fresh business approach proving a success, in what has become a highly competitive market.

Cartow is the result of a merger between two successful recovery operators in the Dublin area, Garage Express and Talbot Motors. However, what has come about is far more than just an amalgamation for two existing businesses, as CarTow.ie Marketing Executive Trisha Norton explains. She says, "The Directors of both companies wanted to establish a new organisation with a fresh approach to the breakdown and recovery industry. They carefully researched the changing needs of the sector, sought out new investors and advisors and set about creating a new type of recovery operation, which fully focuses on the needs of the customer.”

The results are visibly impressive, from the fleet of eye-catchingly branded vehicles, through to the state-of-the-art call centre, but key to the success has been the positive reaction from customers. Trisha explains, "We set about creating a service based on high values of professionalism, with easy accessibility and competitive, transparent pricing. The idea is that when a stranded motorist sees a CarTow.ie vehicle coming to their aid, they are completely confident they are going to get a high standard of service from a friendly, professional and highly trained driver. From the feedback we are getting it seems that we are overwhelmingly achieving this goal.”

Hub of the new service is a 24/7 call centre based on the very perimeter of Dublin airport. Permanently manned by skilled staff, the centre coordinates the 16 vehicle CarTow.ie fleet which is based at a separate depot in Finglas. The trucks are branded in an impressive orange and black livery, and can accommodate all types of vehicles from a motorbike to a large van. The fleet handles recovery and breakdown calls in the greater Dublin area and beyond, while CarTow.ie also has agreements with a developing network of recovery agents in other parts of Ireland, so that it can offer nationwide coverage.

Services on offer include everything from vehicle refuelling and recovery, through to tyre changes, lockouts and flat batteries. Trisha says, "We aim to provide customers with a full service from the original call to the end solution. If they want us to, we will provide a total solution, not only recovering vehicles and helping with onward travel, but also ensuring a quality repair through our specially chosen service and repair partners.”

The complete quality service, and highly professional approach has quickly gained favour with the motoring public, who are sometimes wary of low profile recovery operators, with Cartow quickly building up business through word of mouth and social media recommendation.

The business has also grown through building partnerships with several major insurance companies, fleet operators and motoring organisations. These business-to business clients have been especially impressed with CarTow.ie’s performance monitoring and evaluation. Trisha comments, "We recognise that to have an efficient customer focused business we must keep a close eye on how we are performing in the field. To do this we study key performance indicators such as driver arrival times against estimates and job turnaround times. We make a point to follow up with all our customers, to ensure they are fully satisfied with our service.”

Having quickly gained a positive reputation in the market, the CarTow.ie management team is now looking at expanding its coverage still further.Like it distinctive orange trucks, the future looks bright for Cartow.
