Forget aging Formula Ford’s or battered Fiat Puntos, this might just be the future for club racing in Ireland. It is called the Westfield iRacer and is an all-electric car built especially for the track. It will form the basis of the world's first one make electric race car series starting in 2011 and will be making demonstration appearances at tracks this year.

Designed by Elliott Hawkins, the bodywork uses a range of materials, including composites, aluminium, recyclable plastics and even a stretched Lycra skin to reduce weight. Westfield say the car will have a limited top speed of 177km/h and a racing range of around 90 km. It also offers the perhaps alien concept of motor racing without the engine roar.
