When Fred Schritt, a 71-year-old Nebraska based tow truck operator, watched a DVD of The Film Cars with one of his grandsons, it gave him a unique idea for the promotion of his business. He was taken by “Mater” the tow truck which features in the animation, and this gave him an idea of what to do with a rusting Jeep in his yard. Schritt set about transforming the Jeep into a character that reflected his own business, and created the Pepermint Kid “The fastest tow in town.”
The cartoon like truck now sits high up on a pole and acts as a sign to promote Fred’s towing and bodyshop business. Since it went up his business has well and truly been put on the map.
