Blue Print adds to Clutch Range and highlights Aygo clutch issues

Blue Print has made a number of important additions to its clutch kit range. This now includes over 830 part numbers which cover nearly 2,200 Asian and American applications, all covered by a Three Year, ‘No Quibble’ Unlimited Mileage Warranty. The Blue Print clutch range also includes a comprehensive selection of clutch components such as cables, hoses, master cylinders and slave cylinders.

To support the range Blue Print keeps a close eye on vehicle recalls, manufacturer service bulletins and OE parts that have been identified to fail prematurely. Where such instances are identified Blue Print parts are up-rated, tested and superseded to ensure the fault has been rectified.

A recent example of this is the clutch on the 1.0 Toyota Aygo (KGB10, 1KR-FE), which also fits the Peugeot 107 and the Citroen C1. It was noted that drivers began to complain about clutch slip, clutch noise, an abnormal smell. Total failure of the OE clutch was happening regularly around 40,000 miles. In response to this Toyota issued a bulletin saying that all clutch replacements on this vehicle should be conducted using a larger clutch assembly, replacing the original 180mm clutch with a larger 190mm clutch (with increased clutch cover mass), to rectify the premature noise and wear issues.

Blue Print clutch kit ADT330246 for the Aygo, 107 and C1, is supplied with the larger diameter clutch. However, this didn’t completely solve the issue because the clutch on the Aygo, 107 and C1 doesn’t have an automatic clutch pedal, free play adjuster. Free play in the clutch pedal reduces significantly on new vehicles and following on from the original bulletin, Toyota issued another stating that clutch pedal free play, must be checked and adjusted at every service interval (9,000 miles). Essentially, as the amount of free play in the pedal reduces, so does the amount of pressure applied by the clutch cover, which therefore speeds up wear. This means when carrying out a service or fitting Blue Print’s Clutch Kit ADT330246 on an Aygo, 107 or C1, it is essential to make sure you check the clutch pedal free play and adjust as necessary.
