A new study in Sweden has found that Volvo City Safety accident avoidance technology is having a big impact on insurance claims, reducing rear-end frontal collisions by 28%.

The comprehensive study is based on real-life insurance claims data from the Swedish insurers If and Volvia. This found that City Safety auto braking collision avoidance systems not only reduced actual crash numbers, but also greatly reduced the incidence of whiplash and other neck-related injuries caused by low-speed traffic accidents.

The study is based on comprehensive data which covers all accidents regardless of whether there was any injury. The figures show that cars equipped with the first two generations of City Safety were involved in 28% fewer accidents. This has prompted Swedish insurers to offer discounts to drivers who have cars featuring the technology.
