Remanufactured vehicle parts are becoming huge business globally and in the USA it looks as if the idea is going to get the Federal seal of approval.

The Federal Vehicle Repair Cost Savings Act of 2015 (S. 565) passed through the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee recently without opposition. Interestingly the bill states, that the head of every US Federal agency "shall encourage the use of remanufactured vehicle components to maintain Federal vehicles, if using such components reduces the cost of maintaining the Federal vehicles while maintaining quality."

A report by the Governmental Accountability Office says that US authorities spend almost $1 billion on vehicle repair and maintenance each year and savings through use of remanufactured components, such as engines, starters, alternators, steering racks, and clutches could be huge. Cost saving are estimated to be in the region of 25% and the reduced environmental impact is also an important consideration.
