Delphi Academy has reinforced its position as a leader in vehicle technician training with the addition of a hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai to its fleet of training vehicles.

As one of the most advanced hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the roads, the Mirai brings cutting-edge technology to the workshop floor, giving technicians invaluable hands-on experience with real-world fuel cell systems. It’s a milestone moment for Delphi Academy and a powerful signal of where the aftermarket is headed.

“The Toyota Mirai is a standout example of hydrogen innovation,” said Luke Garratt, UK Technical Services Manager at Delphi. “It allows technicians to work directly with the systems that are shaping the next generation of clean transport. Integrating it into our Hydrogen Level 2 and forthcoming Level 3 qualifications means we’re not just talking about the future, we’re delivering it.”

With global momentum building around hydrogen as a clean propulsion source, Delphi is committed to giving independent workshops the tools, knowledge and confidence to adapt.

Based at its state-of-the-art facility in Warwick, UK, Delphi Academy is one of the UK’s only training centres offering dedicated hydrogen courses focused on the safe and effective servicing of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).

The Academy’s two-day Advanced Hydrogen course covers the principles of both fuel cell and hydrogen internal combustion systems, alongside vital safety procedures such as leak detection and nitrogen purging. Practical tasks, including changing injector seals on Delphi’s proprietary hydrogen powertrain rig, immerse technicians in the hands-on reality of working with this high-pressure technology.

“The future of vehicles won’t be defined by just one technology,” added Garratt. “We’re entering a mixed-energy era where petrol, diesel, hybrid, battery electric and hydrogen vehicles will all coexist. Our training reflects that complexity, and prepares technicians to thrive in it.”
