During April and May, ELVES successfully rolled out its hybrid and electric vehicle awareness course to an additional 17 employees of Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs) around the country. Developed and delivered by Salvage Wire Ltd, the course was provided in a new online format to enable easy access to the training for all ATFs.

The course involved participants watching three videos and completing the accompanying workbooks and assessment to demonstrate their understanding of the material presented. In addition, each participant was invited to a webinar with the trainer, to provide a recap of the material and to answer any specific questions they may have had.

The Electric ELVES hybrid and electric vehicle awareness training has been running since 2019.  Initially only available in person, the awareness training is now offered online, enabling it to be delivered in an era of travel restrictions and social distancing. The latest batch of students saw the cumulative number of people now trained through the programme total 110 from ATFs up and down the country.

The awareness training is delivered as part of the Electric ELVES programme operated by ELVES, the compliance scheme of End-of-Life Vehicles. Electric ELVES provides a range of supports to all ATFs in Ireland including training and free collection and recycling of electric vehicle batteries.

ELVES is delighted to have been able to offer the training despite ongoing restrictions and was encouraged by the enthusiasm of participants to complete the training in this new online format. “There is a real keenness out there, from ATFs, to learn about this new technology that will be soon arriving at their sites. It is great to see ATFs using this opportunity to get prepared for the future” said Elena Wrelton from ELVES.
