A good garage would never dream of performing a vehicle service without changing the engine oil. But many garages still pass up a great deal of potential business because they fail to check and change transmission fluid when required.

Mannol and its sister parts operation SCT is aiming to make this process much easier with its comprehensive range of transmission fluids and transmission fluid filters. The company says these are high quality products that are very competitively priced and allow an independent garage to offer transmission fluid changes at a fraction of the cost of those on offer at main dealers.

The need for a transmission oil change varies according to the vehicle, although in general a change is required every 60,000 to 80,000 kilometres. It is also important to note that in vehicles that have heavy use, such as towing or frequent hill climbing, the fluid is likely to wear faster, often due to increased temperature. In these instances fluid may need to be changed much more frequently.  This means that thousands of automatic cars are on our roads with a transmission service well over due.

When the fluid is changed it can often transform the feel of the automatic box. This appears to be especially true with some Constant Variable Transmissions (CVT). A fluid change can also have a positive impact on fuel consumption and emissions.

Like engine oil, in recent years, transmission fluid has become much more vehicle specific and it is vital that the correct application is chosen to meet manufacturer specifications. Mannol offers a comprehensive range of automatic transmission fluids that meet vehicle maker’s requirements. For example Dexron VI is a high performance automatic transmission fluid specially developed for General Motors vehicles, but which also corresponds to many other manufacturer specs. ATF AG60 is formulated for Audi, BMW, Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover and VW vehicles that are equipped with 8-, 6-, and 5-speed automatic transmissions from ZF.

Mannol O.E.M. 8208 is suitable for Toyota and Lexus models that use Toyota Type T-IV fluids and O.E.M. 8215 is an all year round fluid developed for use in automatic transmissions from Mercedes that require the use of ATF MB 236.15 fluids.

Mannol also offers Automatic Plus fluids and more general use multifunctional ATFs, while ATF AG52 Automatic Special is a gear oil formulated for Multitronic steptronic and tiptronic units where VW TL 52 162 is recommended. CVT Variator Fluid is also available for steel-belt variable transmissions.

Of course a fluid change should go hand in hand with a filter change and Mannol sister company SCT-Germany offers a comprehensive range of high quality filter kits for most applications. These kits include all the required components to complete a quality transmission fluid and filter replacement and can offer very significant savings over the vehicle manufacturer alternatives.

Mannol transmission fluids and SCT transmission filters are distributed in Ireland by Carcessories and available from motor factor stockist nationwide.
