SEAI EV grant to be maintained at current level
Share:

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) purchase grant on electric vehicles will be maintained at its current level throughout 2024, according to the Department of Transport.  However, a long term plan to phase out the grant over future years will remain in place.

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry had called for the current level to be maintained until 2026. Currently the grant stands at €3,500 for new EVs purchases up to €60,000. This is a reduction on the pervious grant of €5,000 which was reduced in July 2023.

The cost of grants had been a concern to the government, while the Department of Transport is also aware of the need to divert funding to EV infrastructure.  However, with EV sales growth slowing, it has been generally accepted that the current grant should be maintained for at least another year.
