Yuasa, one of Europe’s most recognised and trusted battery brands, is charging into the 2025 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season alongside Irish racing ace Árón Taylor-Smith, with support from leading Irish distributor Somora Motor Parts.
Following a standout 2024 season in which Árón dominated the Independents’ Championship with 20 class wins and two outright podiums, he now takes on the grid with the factory-backed Toyota Gazoo Racing UK team. Behind the wheel of the formidable Toyota Corolla GR Sport, Árón is fully powered up for another championship challenge, this time with Yuasa and Somora in his corner.
Yuasa’s sponsorship underscores the brand’s deep commitment to high-performance motorsport, reliability, and its expanding influence across both the UK and Irish automotive markets. As part of the partnership, Yuasa branding will feature prominently on Árón’s race suit.
Somora Motor Parts, long-time distributor of Yuasa batteries in Ireland, will also support Árón’s campaign. With motorsport running through the veins of the business since its founding in 1985, the partnership is a natural extension of Somora’s passion for performance and commitment to delivering quality parts to the trade.
Stephen Lawless, of Somora Motor Parts, said, “Everyone at Somora has been a long-time fan of the BTCC, frequently travelling to support Árón over the years. To now be actively involved in his BTCC program is incredibly rewarding. Árón has created a platform that maximises our brand exposure, particularly in the Irish media, while also showcasing Yuasa Batteries, a key product line for us. We have a series of exciting activations planned with Árón throughout the season and look forward to seeing what he can achieve as part of Toyota Gazoo Racing UK.”
With all BTCC races broadcast live on ITV4 and an audience exceeding 20 million in 2024, Yuasa’s presence on the grid ensures the brand remains in the spotlight throughout one of the UK’s most-watched motorsport series.
At the season opener at Donington Park , Árón was hampered by some electrical issues in the first two races which caused his retirement. However, he did show promising pace in both races and this was once again reflected in a points finish in race 3. He now moves on with optimism to the Brands Hatch Indy circuit on May 10th and 11th.
