The theme for Repak Recycling Week this year is to "Recycle More around the workplace”. TRACS (Tyre Recovery Activity Compliance Scheme) would like to encourage all businesses in the tyre supply chain, to embrace the recycling ethos and make sure that licensed operators are properly handling their tyre waste.
TRACS members allow their waste tyres to be monitored and only allow the collection of used tyres by licensed collectors. Since the introduction of the 2008 Waste Management Regulations, any tyre business of any size is legally obliged to transfer waste to authorised waste collectors only. To make sure that tyre waste is properly handled, all retailers and holders of waste tyres are advised to ask their collector to produce proof of proper waste management such as a Recovery Certificate.
TRACS members benefit by being exempt from legal obligations to provide regular and numerous detailed reports to their local authority and the EPA. TRACS compiles and reports this information and retailers can rest assured that they are meeting their obligations under the Regulations while reducing the problem of waste tyres.
Any operators not yet registered with a compliance scheme, or not sure about why they should become a member, can log onto www.tracsireland.ie or call 01-410-0601 to find out how registering with a compliance scheme such as TRACS can benefit their business.
