Independent garages need to more proactive in their marketing to take advantage of opportunities caused by dealer closures. That is the message from motor industry consultancy Network Automotive who believe, that the shutting of many satellite dealer sites is creating dealer ‘ghost towns’.

In rural Ireland especially, motoring services buying decisions are often largely based on location rather than any brand loyalty and this means the active independent can pick up significant business when dealers close. Motorists generally prefer to shop local rather than use a collection and delivery service and courtesy cars. This means local independent garages prepared to invest in good facilities and promotion of their business stand to capitalise on this situation.
