Sam Moffett and Karl Atkinson have continued their recent form with a win in the Cartell.ie International Rally of the Lakes in Killarney.


A superb performance on Sunday saw the Fiesta driver climb from third place on Saturday to take over the lead during Sunday's seven stages The result gave Moffett his second Lakes victory in four yea
rs.
This result also means that Moffett takes the lead of the Clonakilty Blackpudding Irish Tarmac Championship with three of the six rounds completed. Alastair Fisher had led the championship going into this round but after leading in the early stages, he crashed out on the fourth stage. He did re-join under Rally 2 on the second day with a view to getting some points but still drops to second behind Moffett in the championship.

Moffett’s Fiesta finished the two gruelling days 16 seconds ahead of the Hyundai i20 of Robert Barrable and Damien Connolly set five fastest stage times in the Hyundai i20 R5 on his way to finishing second. Stephen Wright and Arthur Kierans were third in another Fiesta. Overnight leaders Roy White and James O'Brien damaged their Fiesta on a chicane while trying to hold off the charging Moffett, and were forced to retire.

Meanwhile, Kevin Eves and William Lynch in a Toyota Corolla GT clinched the National Rally category, Shane McCarthy and Trisha Greavy won the Junior event in a Honda while Barry Jones and Iwan Griffiths were the Historic winners in a Ford Escort Mark II.
