Man dies in dismantler's yard accident

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are carrying out separate investigations following the death of a man in Co. Galway


The man who died in an industrial accident near Corrandulla has been named as local man, Joe Fahy of Cahermorris.

It’s understood the 54 year old became trapped by machinery at a dismantler’s yard at Cahermorris on Wednesday. He had been working at the yard at the time.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the accident in Corrandulla, but Joe Fahy was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to University Hospital Galway, where a post mortem examination took place. The scene was sealed off immediately ahead of a full investigation. The Health and Safety Authority and Gardaí who are investigating the tragedy are treating the accident as an industrial incident.

Joe Fahy is survived by his wife Christine, daughter Amanda and son Jason and a wide circle of family and friends.
