It is a legal requirement that all road signs in Wales have to be displayed in both English and Welsh, but it seems that staff in council offices and sign makers do not share the same bilingual approach. This has lead to the strange case of a road sign in Swansea which reads 'I am not in the office at the moment. Please send any work to be translated'.

The mix-up happened when the actual sign message “No entry for heavy goods vehicles” was emailed to a Welsh translator who was unfortunately out of the office and sent an automated response.
