The latest results from the Euro NCAP vehicle safety testing organisation, has seen most new models post a five star safety performance in the updated tests. The new rating scheme includes assessments of adult, child and pedestrian safety, as well as a category called safety assist covering active safety innovations.

Overall, Five Star ratings were given to the Audi Q5, Peugeot 3008 and Kia Soul. Smaller models such as the Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz also received five stars, illustrating the safety advances that manufacturers have made, even when models have smaller size and weight.

The Suzuki Alto city car achieved a more disappointing result, with an overall three star rating, which was judged to offer little protection to adult or child pedestrians in the event of an accident.
