Volkswagen Ireland has announced that Joe Duffy Motors is expanding their footprint in the Volkswagen network of dealerships in Ireland.

As part of their growth strategy, the Joe Duffy Motor Group purchased Commons Road Cars in Navan, the exclusive distributor of Volkswagen in County Meath.

Commenting, Paul Burke, Operations Director at Volkswagen Ireland said: "Our network of dealers are the gatekeepers to the Volkswagen brand in Ireland and we are delighted that the Joe Duffy motor group will be representing the Volkswagen Group. The Commons Road Cars dealership is the only Volkswagen franchise in county Meath and we look forward to continuing to grow the business with the Joe Duffy team."

Having established the family business in 1991, owner Nancy Callaghan has now decided to retire from the successful business which has a large customer base and a loyal, long-serving team.  Under the acquisition agreement, which will see the Volkswagen Commons Road employees transfer to the Joe Duffy Group, the dealership will continue to operate under the same name as part of the Volkswagen dealer network at its high-profile location on the Commons Road.

Welcoming the acquisition, Volkswagen Commons Road Dealer Principal, Paul Duffy said: "We are pleased that the future interests of our customers and staff will be safeguarded under the new ownership and management. Equally their culture and values mirror those that have been central to our business since its foundation. We are looking forward to joining Irelands leading retail motor group."

Gavin Hydes, Joe Duffy Motor Group CEO said: "We are very pleased to be representing Volkswagen in another key geographic location. As Ireland's leading motor retail group, we continue to expand and grow our Group by acquiring suitable bolt on businesses that complement our portfolio. Last year saw the very successful launch of Audi Limerick and the purchase of the Eastgate facility in Cork. This latest addition is our 11th facility and fits perfectly into our strategy of organic growth and acquisition. We look forward to welcoming the team into the group. We are committed to investing in our people and have increased the number of employees by 161% since 2012 when we have a team of 130. This acquisition now brings the total number of Group employees to 340".
