One of the features of the old TopGear television show which people often commented on was the unique automotive themed furniture used on the set. This included a glass coffee table that used an engine block as its base. Taking inspiration from the show Tallaght Powder Coatings is now designing and producing unique glass coffee tables using gleaming powder coated V8 engine blocks.

Jeff Bibby of Tallaght Powder Coatings (TPC), which specialises in all type of metal finishing and offers a very popular alloy wheel refurbishment service, recently displayed one of his creations at the AXA National Classic Car Show in the RDS and was overwhelmed by the attention it received. He says, “Everyone who visited our stand loved the table and we were so taken by the interest that we are now offering to create bespoke tables for customers.”

The table was based on an American V8 Ford Windsor engine, with the pistons removed and used as arms to support the 6mm toughened glass table top. The engine block was in a sorry state when it arrived at the workshop, but was totally transformed b the Tallaght team. This involved dipping and stripping in a chemical bath, sandblasting , welding, priming and powdercoating in a standout  chrome finish.  It was then fitted with LED lighting before applying the glass.

Jeff believes that the table would make a perfect centre piece for the reception area of dealerships and garages, or to add an automotive theme to a home or office. He says that TPC can also create other items from engine parts such as piston clocks and crankshaft lamps. He comments, “We have had lots of interest both from car sales outlets and garages as well as motoring enthusiasts. They all love the level of finish we can achieve on the engine with our unique coating process.”

Jeff is now taking orders for these unique hand-made creations, which can be made to the customer’s specific requirements.  For more information please call Jeff at Tallaght Powder Coatings on 01-456-4020 or 087-668-3289.
