The European Union is pushing ahead with plans to make “brake assist” and frontal protection systems compulsory on all new cars sold. The measures form part of the EU strategy to increase pedestrian safety. The European Parliament’s transport committee has now approved outline plans in principle, and more detailed proposals will follow later this year.
