After 64 years, Citroen are discontinuing the use of their famed hydropneumatic suspension system.

Citoen’s DS range of cars in the past were synonymous with the nitrogen-filled spheres that stiffened or softened using hydraulic fluid.  Now only the C5 saloon and estate are offered with the old system. With general sales of the C5 falling, and fewer still with hydropneumatic suspensions, it is the end of the road for  the out-dated technology.

Citroen have decided to ditch it as part of a wider cost-cutting exercise. They will now concentrate on and invest further in conventional suspension technology with an eye on maintaining the comfort levels offered by the once-renowned hydropneumatic suspension system.
