A team of German inventors have turned James Bond fiction into reality, by coming up with an iPhone application that allows motorists to drive a car using their mobile phone.

The iDriver uses a normal iPhone and features buttons to accelerate and brake, along with a steering wheel that uses the iPhone\'s motion-sensitive capabilities. Instructions from the phone are sent to an onboard computer, which controls the car, while a live video picture is beamed back to the screen.

At this stage there are no plans to make the application commercially available, although the system was said to perform well at recent tests on a Berlin airstrip.
