The AST product demonstration van was in Ireland recently touring around garages and motor factors to promote the high quality AST range of vehicle service tools.

AST offers a range of specialist and workshop tools for professional mechanics designed to save time and make complex jobs more simple. The company is especially renowned for its range of manufacturer specific timing tools, specialist sockets and wrenches and engine test kits.

Of particular interest to mechanics on the recent visit was AST5160, a VAG Group Diesel Engine Camshaft Installer Kit. This is for VAG 1.2, 1.6 and 2.0TDi common rail twin camshaft diesel engines. The AST5160 kit contains the special tools required to set the timing position and reinstall the camshafts correctly. This kit, which needs to be used in conjunction with AST4840 engine setting/locking kit, is proving very popular at present as mechanics report issues especially with the 2.0 engine.

Also available is the AST5165 kit which increases the application coverage of AST5160 kit to include VAG 2.7 & 3.0TDI(V6) and 4.2(V8) common rail diesel engines. This utilises the same spring loaded drive gear setup as the smaller inline engines, meaning a specialist tool is a must for effective installation.
