UV virus killing system could be the future for ride sharing

Ride sharing was seen as the way ahead by many for personal mobility just a few months ago, but the Coronavirus pandemic has cast a doubt over its future. However, one self driving start up company believes it can see a way ahead with virus killing UV technology installed in every vehicle.

Voyage’s 3rd generation Robotaxi features what the company calls "ambulance-grade" cleanliness thanks to an ultraviolet lighting system that sterilises vehicles after each journey. The UV-C system has been developed by GHSP and is currently being tested on the latest version of a Voyage self-driving Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan in San Jose, California.

Voyage has targeted door-to-door driverless journeys for senior citizens as one of its main development markets, so some form of interior vehicle cleaning is especially required. The company says its robotaxi is considerably less expensive than other self driving taxi vehicles and believes this along with its carefully targeted approach offers a high chance of an early autonomous vehicle success story.
