Toyota Write Off Avoidance Programme combats used car value surge

With the latest figures showing that used car values are up as much as 40% in the past 12 months, keeping a car on the road after an accident has never been more important. In these circumstances it will come as no surprise that more and more motorists are benefiting from the Toyota Write Off Avoidance Programme and are delighted to be able to keep driving their Toyota vehicle rather than it being classed an uneconomical repair.

Reacting to the current needs of Toyota drivers, the Toyota Aftermarket team has worked to make the programme as quick and easy as possible for Bodyshops to administer, with in most instances, bodyshops across the country getting a reply from their local Toyota Dealer within 60 minutes, with the result generally being that the car can be repaired. Indeed since 2017, figures show that more than 80% of applications for the Write Off Avoidance Programme have been approved.

The current situation in the used car sector is that lack of supply, due to factors such as the pandemic slowing down new car sales and restricting fleet activity and Brexit reducing used car imports, have come together with a surge in demand for vehicles as people look to move away from public transport. This has caused sharp prices rises in used car values, which means that if a car is written off after an accident a driver will find it very difficult to get a vehicle of the same quality with an insurance payout. This makes having their damaged vehicle expertly repaired a far more convenient and attractive option.

The Write Off Avoidance Programme targets Toyota vehicles that have been classified as marginal uneconomical repairs and allows the repairer, insurer and Toyota dealer to work together and use additional parts discounts on qualifying cars to have them safely repaired and keep them on the road. This not only lets Toyota drivers retain a valued and often cherished asset, but also provides much needed added work for bodyshops.

Arthur Power of Toyota Ireland says, “Personal mobility is especially vital at present and with used car values so high, drivers can be faced with a big financial headache if they have to replace a written off vehicle as the shortfall between an insurance valuation and the market value of a similar car can be a shock. The Write Off Avoidance Programme can avoid this and get them back on the road faster, in their own car with minimal inconvenience. They also have the peace of mind of knowing that it has been repaired to high standards using genuine Toyota parts.”

Repairers wishing to avail of the Toyota Write Off Avoidance Programme should contact their local Toyota Dealer Parts Department.
