MEYLE has added a new specification to its cabin filter line-up in the form of a Biofunctional filter which features an additional filter layer enriched with silver ions. This delivers and an antibacterial function and thus clean air in the car.

MEYLE says increasing air pollution exposes drivers and occupants to dangerous particles such as soot and harmful gases such as ozone when driving. Air pollution caused by allergens, bacteria and fungi, can also form in the filter and further increase the health burden. While the MEYLE-ORIGINAL particle and activated carbon filters already filter out harmful gases, soot and pollen, the new cabin air filter also actively protects against bacteria and, thanks to its fungicidal effect, against the development of mould and fungi.

The new cabin air filter consists of four layers that clean the air before it enters the vehicle interior: the Biofunctional layer has an antibacterial effect and prevents mould fungus formation, the   Activated carbon layer filters harmful gases such as ozone (O3), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), the carrier fleece forms the base for the activated carbon layer and the biofunctional layer and the particle filter layer filters dust, pollen, soot and dirt.

MEYLE recommends changing the filter every 15,000 km or at least twice a year. This is because in the course of time, fine dust, soot, pollen or insects settle in the filter and the functionality is gradually lost. In a dirty filter, the dirt particles react with the humidity inside the vehicle. The consequences being fogged windows and unpleasant odours as well as additional exposure to allergens and bacteria, which enter the vehicle due to reduced functionality. Especially in autumn and winter, the humid air promotes the formation of bacteria and mould.
