Parts deliveries may never be the same again. Following the delivery of a Gates DriveAlign tensioner sent by drone to Sheffield based Group Auto member Brakeline Motor Factors on March 13, it is believed to be the first commercial delivery of its kind.

The experiment, which is the subject of a 4-minute video produced by parts distributor FPS, available to view above, demonstrates how such a system might work in the future.

Gates regional manager Taco Homan said: 'We applaud the success of the FPS initiative - which complied with all current air traffic regulations governing drone operation - and Gates was delighted to be involved in yet another industry first.'
