Tyre maker Bridgestone has unveiled a new-generation bicycle tyre as in effort to realise practical application of its “Air Free Concept.” The idea is to develop technology for creating tyres that do not need to be inflated. The company hopes to make the new tyre available in 2019 and is working on transferring the idea to other sectors.

The tyre uses a unique structure of spokes stretching along its inner sides. In addition, the resins that are used in the spokes and rubbers help realise more efficient use of resources. The obvious benefit is no punctures, but it is also thought the new tyre will allow for much more flexibility in cycle design.
