French car maker Renault has caused a bit of shock in the car world with the new Renault 5 Turbo 3E, an unexpected 500hp rear-wheel drive EV version of the iconic 80’s hatchback.

Renault describes the new limited edition car as the spiritual successor to the original 5 Turbo 3E of the 1980s, complete with do 0-60mph acceleration in just 3.5 seconds and eye-catching wide-body styling kit. However, it retains the retro look of the original, complete with block headlamps.

Two electric motors are mounted at the back powering the rear wheels and delivering a massive 500hp for such a compact car.

A concept version of this car was shown a few years ago, but at the time Renault had no production plans. The French company now says the car will be made in very limited numbers, so we can expect the price tag to be high.
