Engines see benefits of Mannol ester technology

The introduction of ester oil technology into mainstream lubricants by Mannol has marked a milestone for the company and has already proved to be a big talking point. It has allowed the oil and additive specialist to provide garage customers and motorists with access to advanced aerospace lubricant technology for the first time, offering them a range of benefits that might normally be reserved for jet engines or the motorsport elite.

Developed to withstand the extreme heat of aircraft engines, ester oils have the capability to offer automotive applications great performance benefits. However, up to now cost has been a restricting consideration. Development researchers at Mannol have recently been able to harness the benefits of ester technology in an economically viable way and apply this to motor oils. The result is ester based oils that offers a huge step forward in terms of oil performance and longevity.

The formulation of these oils contains ester molecules which due to their polarity are attracted to positively charged metal surfaces. This means they effectively create a film on the moving parts which translated into better lubrication, lower energy consumption, meaning reduced emissions, and reduced engine wear. The ester molecules are also less volatile and so do not evaporate as quickly meaning the oil will last longer and are excellent solvents and dispersants. This means the oil effectively disperses impurities that might otherwise form as sludge in the system, keeping the oil cleaner.

A further plus for the technology is the plant origin of esters means that the production of these oils is more environmentally friendly than other base oils. The oil is also capable of fast biodegradation without harm to the environment.

The recently introduced Mannol ester oils meet ACEA and API standards of engine protection, while exceeding the standard requirements of most vehicle makers. Mannol Ester technology lubricants are also available in a wide range of specifications and full selection of pack sizes.

Mannol oils are distributed in Ireland by J&S Automotive and are available from motor factor stockists nationwide.
