Transit Connect - Messy leaking injectors Escaping gasses were beginning to cause a mess around the injectors
Share:

When this 2016 Ford Transit Connect came in for a routine service, the first thing I noted was that the top of the engine was starting to show signs of a treacle-like substance, which gives away the fact that the injector seals are leaking. This is becoming a more common issue and one I now see quite regularly.

It made sense to replace the injector seals now, before the problem got any worse. Over time, the tar like substance covering the top of the engine would be even more difficult to clean away.

The book time for the removal and replacement of all four injectors is 2.6 hours. This is a fair time, but if the top of the head was covered in the treacly results of escaping gasses, the time would certainly go up.

On some vehicles this problem can sometimes be resolved with a quick nip down of the injectors, but on this engine the torque setting is only 7Nm then a further 85°, and new bolts and clamps are recommended. Doing a proper job meant that a quick nip down would leave the final torque setting unknown, so the doing the job correctly was certainly the best option.

Once all serviced I could be confident that the engine was in good shape and should go on trouble free for a while.
