The Schaeffler technical training team is offering specialist training on its LuK dry double clutch repair solution to provide technicians with total confidence when dealing with these increasingly popular systems.

Schaeffler is the only company in the independent aftermarket to offer an original equipment repair solution for dry double clutch systems, the LuK RepSet 2CT. Each kit includes a double clutch module and all of the necessary components required for the garage to change the clutch efficiently.

First launched in 2012, the range of LuK RepSet 2CT kits continues to expand, with Schaeffler currently offering solutions for Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen 1st and 2nd generation DSG transmissions, Ford Powershift, Renault EDC and for the Fiat 350Nm engine.

Double clutch technology offers emission and fuel economy benefits as well as better drivability meant it is becoming increasingly popular. It is estimated that by 2020 every fifth ‘automatic’ gearbox will actually feature double clutch technology.

Schaeffler has been supplying OE dry double clutch technology to manufacturers since 2008, so demand for replacement is now rising, presenting garages with a significant profit opportunity.

Special tools are necessary for the accurate removal and installation of a double clutch. This is because, unlike a conventional clutch (which is bolted directly onto the flywheel), a double clutch is tightly mounted onto the input shaft of the gearbox. Schaeffler has developed specific LuK RepSet 2CT kits for each transmission system, and all engagement levers and bearings, required shims, guide sleeves, snap rings and securing bolts are all included inside the 2CT kit box. Currently, the complete range consists of six LuK RepSet 2CT kits, along with corresponding Dual Mass Flywheels (DMFs) and special tools.

The DMFs for double clutch transmissions are available from all LuK stockists, and they can be installed without special training or tools. However, Schaeffler say it’s important to follow certain steps prior to removing the transmission as errors could cause potential problems. LuK RepSet 2CT kits are only available to mechanics that have attended and are certified on the LuK double clutch training course that fully explains a professional, accurate removal and replacement of the new system on all double clutch transmissions using the LuK special tools.

The dedicated Schaeffler 2CT technical training package includes instructions on the operation of the system as well as the profit opportunities available to the independent garage network in taking on this type of repair. Most importantly, the correct removal and installation procedure for each 2CT is demonstrated ‘hands-on’ using the special tools.
