Proper handling of elastic belts
Wednesday, December 05, 2012
If elastic V-ribbed belts are installed in an auxiliary drive, workshops must be especially careful to identify these correctly and never use standard V-ribbed belts instead.
Standard V-ribbed belts are not stretchable and therefore do not give the required pretension on the belt pulleys, if they can be fitted at all. Changing elastic belts requires strength, because the belts need to be stretched during fitting. To make this easier and to ensure that the belts are always installed correctly, a special tool should be used.
To assist mechanics in this situation, ContiTech has just the solution: From individual elastic belts and kits containing a disposable tool, to the highly versatile UNI TOOL ELAST. These elastic belt installation tools are indispensable, especially for cars such as the Ford Focus, C-Max, and Mondeo 1.4/1.6 and the Volvo S40, C30, V50 1.6 gasoline engines with double belt pulley.
ContiTech also offers the ELAST TOOL F01, for alternator belts which cannot be fitted without this special-purpose tool.
All products relating to elastic belts can be found in the standard catalog systems such as TecDoc.
