Somora Motor Parts in conjunction with John Laverty Motor Factors of Dundlak, recently organised a special information evening to explain the dangers of using unsuitable oils in vintage and classic cars. 

The presentation was given to the North East Vintage Car Club and was delivered by Tom Bruggeman, the Technical Support Manager for Kroon Oil. Kroon is a Dutch lubricant specialist with over 100 years experience in oils so it very well placed to advise on vintage and classic car lubrication requirements. 

Tom explained that Kroon Oil is a true oil specialist, focused on the development and manufacture of premium lubricants. This includes a comprehensive range specialist oils for Vintage and Classic vehicles.

The emphasis of the latest generation of oils is on emission reduction and this will generally mean low viscosity oils which are not suitable for older engine designs. These oils also contain additives and detergents that can cause caked-on impurities in the engine to become detached and can attack older seals and rubbers.
