Cars more vital than ever during lockdown

A new survey by motoring organisation, the RAC, in UK has provided an interesting insight into how motorist’s attitudes and habit have been affected by the Coronavirus lockdown. A third of those surveyed said having access to a car is now more important than ever, while 10% say they have stopped driving completely since restrictions were introduced.


75% of drivers say they are currently using their car for permitted food shopping, 28% say they use it to get to pharmacies and 18% say they use it to provide care or help to a vulnerable person. 20% also say they use the car to get to work. While 9% of drivers say they use their car most days, the majority, 60%, say they are now using their cars only once a week or less.

RAC UK Breakdown spokesperson Rod Dennis said, “These figures highlight the important role the private car still plays in enabling people to complete their essential journeys during lockdown. The reality for many people is that they still rely on the car for certain trips.”

Rod also pointed out that only using cars infrequently can lead to problems, particularly with batteries.
