Cabin air common sense from DENSO

With spring set to finally arrive DENSO has issued some timely tips and information about the importance of vehicle Cabin Air Filters. DENSO Aftermarket Sales Manger Paul Payne says, “Not many motorists realise the vital job done by the Cabin Air Filter and even fewer understand the vital importance of regular filter replacement.”

Paul points out that sneezing, watering eyes or headaches when travelling in a car can all be caused by an inefficient or blocked Cabin Air Filter. He adds that garages need to do more to encouraging motorists to have their Cabin Air Filter replaced, not just at every major service, but on an annual basis or even more frequently.

Without effective Cabin Air Filtration motorists can be affected by a variety of potentially harmful air pollutants entering the comfort zone of their car, including dust particles, bacteria, soot, pollen and harmful gases. Over time, such pollutants can cause health problems as dust particles and fumes are inhaled into the body’s respiratory system. In addition, a dirty Cabin Air Filter could compromise the performance of the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system as a whole. This can often result in a dangerous build-up of window mist restricting visibility.

DENSO recommend that to ensure optimum performance, every Cabin Air Filter is replaced at least once a year, every 10,000 to 15,000 km, or as specified by the vehicle manufacturer.  Dirty filters can also harbour mildews and bacteria, causing allergies and discomfort.  What’s more, failure to change a dirty filter will greatly reduce the air quality inside the vehicle.

DENSO is encouraging garages to make the most of the huge business potential in this sector by educating motorists about ‘CAF common sense’ pointing out the health benefits. It also recommends garages add cabin filters to all work check lists.

Paul says, “Without an effective Cabin Air Filter, the air in the car’s cabin could be up to eight times dirtier than the outside air. On average it takes less than 15 minutes to replace a Cabin Air Filter, so replacement is just common sense for everyone.”

DENSO offers an OE quality, all-makes Cabin Air Filter programme comprising 312 part numbers covering almost 700 applications, the equivalent to 80% of the European car parc.

DENSO’s Cabin Air Filters are exceptionally efficient at trapping and holding exhaust gases, pollen, dust particles and other pollutants so they cannot be inhaled.  They also work without causing a drop in air pressure that could potentially damage a vehicle’s HVAC systems.
