If elastic V-ribbed belts are installed in an auxiliary drive, workshops must be especially careful to identify these correctly and never use standard V-ribbed belts instead.

Standard V-ribbed belts are not stretchable and therefore do not give the required pretension on the belt pulleys, if they can be fitted at all. Changing elastic belts requires strength, because the belts need to be stretched during fitting. To make this easier and to ensure that the belts are always installed correctly, a special tool should be used.
