A new technical video from febi concerning the solution for a worn control arm bush on VAG models is now available on the febi YouTube channel at: www.youtube.com/ferdinandbilstein.

The video shows how to diagnose symptoms such as a knocking or creaking noise in the axle area when driving. The cause of the issue is that some original control arm bushes lack strength and their service life can be shortened by poor road and weather conditions.
febi bilstein offers a solution  with a strengthened control arm bush that features four rubber bars and can withstand large loads even under poor road surface and weather conditions.

Worn steering and suspension components can cause issues, such as knocking or creaking noises over uneven road surfaces, as well as vague steering and handling and uneven tyre wear.

The video shows how when replacing the bush, the wheel must be removed. This provides the best opportunity to inspect the wheel and tyre for any damage, as well as the tyre tread, to see if the steering has been affected. The wheel bolt threads should also be examined for damage and replaced if necessary. The next step is to remove the lower ball joint, first removing the retaining nut. This may require the use of a joint splitter if the joint is seized in place. The track control arm will then need to be removed, first removing its retaining bolt.
febi offers a complete solution for this replacement, with a track control arm kit that includes a new ball joint and front bush, as well as a new console bush and important fitting information. febi recommends the use of a special service tool when replacing a console bush on this vehicle. It is important to clean the housing during this repair to remove any alloy corrosion and ease the installation of the new bush.

It is also important to observe the correct orientation of the control arm bush, as per the febi info guide which can be found on febi LIVE.

Febi technical experts also recommend checking wheel alignment against the manufacturer’s settings and a suitable road test.

Details of all febi steering and suspension components can be found on febi Live!, the online catalogue at www.febilive.com. febi also offers a free technical helpline on 0044 1977 691105 or by email to enquiries@febiuk.co.uk.
